Children’s Cold Medicine Warnings . . . What’s a Parent to Do?
Most of us read in the news that the FDA issued a statement saying that "questions have been raised about the safety of [children’s cold medicines] and whether the benefits justify any potential risks from the use of these products in children, especially in children under 2 years of age."
Regarding the supposed “benefits” – if any – it’s important to keep in mind that both colds and flu are caused by viruses, and no antibiotics or cold medicines have any effect against a virus. In other words, except for the possibility of some slight symptom relief, cold medicines do not help children get well.
Some recommendations surrounding the cold medicine controversy advised avoiding using medications for children under two or under five, but last year a group of pediatricians and public health officials asked the FDA to have drug companies from marketing cold remedies to children under six.
Many drugs were actually withdrawn from the market in response to the FDAs position that the drugs hadn’t been proven to work and had serious risks for young children. See Cough and Cold Medication Use by US Children, for a complete list of those drugs. So what’s a parent to do when their little one is sick?
Try a teaspoon three times a day when your child gets sick and see what happens. We think you’ll be surprised at how much more quickly they recover. Indeed, if Mesosilver is taken at the first signs of illness, so much the better. A recent customer told us, “If I take Mesosilver at the first tickle in the throat or the first sniff, I can sometimes head the whole cold off at the pass!” For more information on this topic, click here Looking for a Natural solution for the Common Cold. Fighting Viruses
The only thing that you can do for your young children when they are sick with a virus is to help support their bodies and immune systems in fighting the virus themselves. This includes what we’ve been taught our whole lives: plenty of liquids and plenty of rest . . . but now it can include a third support: Mesosilver Colloidal Silver. Not only does this all-natural mineral support the immune system, but it has actually been proven to kill viruses (as well as bacteria and fungi).Safe for Children
Silver is a trace mineral/metal that occurs in nature and is in the soil as well as the foods we eat. Colloidal silver is a form of this mineral that has been broken down into teeny-tiny particles (nanoparticles) to aid is absorption. It’s completely safe, and kids (or grown-ups) can’t overdose on silver, because the body naturally rids itself of any excess.Try a teaspoon three times a day when your child gets sick and see what happens.
